why i made Moth
I wanted somewhere I could go instead of losing hours to scrolling and telling myself “one more...” over and over again.
why i made it
I wanted somewhere I could go instead of scrolling for hours in the morning, or thinking “one more...” every single time and then looking at my screen time and seeing 50–60 hours. It started to feel like life was just running away from me.
I still wanted to scroll. I just wanted to scroll something healthier and more beneficial. Something that felt better for my mental health, physical health, and spiritual health instead of feeling like I had just lost another chunk of my day.
Moth does that for me. It lets me scroll and learn, and it gives me quests so I'm not only scrolling. It makes scrolling feel a lot healthier and more fun, especially because you get to discover real moth species along the way.
why moths?
Honestly, I always heard that comparison where butterflies are the “beautiful” ones and moths are the “ugly” ones. I never really understood that.
Butterfly Conservation shared a YouGov poll where 74% of people in the UK said they had a negative view of moths, which is crazy to me because moths are genuinely so beautiful. They're nighttime pollinators, and moths are also used as indicators of healthy ecosystems.
I wanted that to be part of Moth too: spreading a little more awareness that moths aren't ugly or gross. There are so many incredible species, and every moth you discover in the app is a real one.
So moths are obviously a big part of the app. I know that might not be the smartest thing for “business,” but whatever, because moths are so cool. As you use Moth, you'll get to explore more of them. And to the people who already love moths: you rock.
